More than 200 athletes participated on the biggest muaythai competition ever held in South American territory on Saturday 22nd of June. Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil and Paraguay all had teams participating at the event.
174 amateur bouts made up the very large total number of participants, which included Male and Female A and B class and Juniors who gave an unmatched display of potential champion material.
In addition to the huge amount of amateur bouts, 2 professional titles were fought… 1 in a 71kg super 4 challenge and the other one was the Heavyweight Championship. Apart from that, the worldwide well-known champion Valentina Shevchenko fought against Paraguay in another professional bout, winning by KO in the first round.
The President of the Paraguay Olympic Committee, Mr. Camilo Perez was present at the event, supporting the Paraguay Muaythai Federation and the South America Muaythai Confederation; the competition was declared as “People’s Choice” by the Olympic institution a few days before.
By the end of the tournament, Argentina won the first place, also wining the two professional belts; Paraguay came in second and Peru in third.
