The young athletes taking part in the muaythai Youth World Championships were given a spectacular welcome to Bangkok this evening by troupes of dancers and musicians. Government representatives attended including Deputy Minister for Sport and Tourism Khun Ittiphol Khunplome who formally opened the Ceremony.
Today over 600 young athletes saw their names entered into the draw on the IFMA Live system for the biggest IFMA Youth World Championships yet, as 82 countries gathered to celebrate youth muaythai.
It has begun. Nearly 70 teams out of an expected 83 teams are already checked into Bangkok for the Youth World Championships with a record number of delegates expected ti bring the overall number to close to 1,200.
The Royal Thai Government, The Amateur Muaythai Association under Royal Patronage and the International Federation of Muaythai Amateur made a combined press conference and there could not have been a more appropriate venue than the arena itself.

The Australian Muaythai Federation is preparing for the Youth World Championships with another large team, having 37 young athletes signed up to fly to Thailand in August. This furthers the federation’s aim to develop muaythai from the grassroots level across the country.
Muaythai kids around the world are counting the days until they hit Bangkok for the 2018 Youth World Championships! It’s set to be the biggest yet with up to 1,000 young athletes expected from all continents and four rings being built at the stadium.
IFMA tournaments work on a pyramid structure with a broad base of youth athletes and is now showing fruits as they graduate to competing at elite level. It’s a proud moment for IFMA to see them taking their place competing with their heroes here in Prague.
