Bangkok’s Icon Siam Gears Up for a Celebration of Sport, Culture, and Tradition
Bangkok’s riverside gem, Icon Siam, is set to host the 2024 Soft Power Muaythai Festival, a spectacular three-day celebration from December 3 to 5. The festival will bring together the vibrant traditions of Thailand’s national sport with its growing global influence, offering a unique blend of athletic excellence, cultural showcases, and international camaraderie.
Organised under the auspices of the International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA) and Thailand’s leading Muaythai organisations, the festival promises a dynamic 3-day programme honouring Muaythai’s rich legacy and Olympic recognition.
Day 1: The Future Meets Tradition
The opening day focuses on the youth, the torchbearers of Muaythai’s future. Young athletes will take centre stage in competitions, interactive workshops, and educational activities designed to foster respect, discipline, and community—the hallmarks of the sport.
“The youth are our future. Let us celebrate their achievements and showcase the next generation of Muaythai talent,” said Dr. Sakchye Tapsuwan, President of AMTAT and IFMA.
Day 2: Muaythai on the Olympic Stage
The second day of the festival celebrates Muaythai’s full recognition by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), a milestone that cements its place on the global sports stage. With events highlighting the Olympic values of inclusion, respect, and fair play, this day underscores the sport’s alignment with the ideals of Olympism.
“Muaythai is proud to be fully recognised by the IOC. This day celebrates our sport’s journey and the values that unite us within the Olympic family,” shared event organisers.
Day 3: A Royal Tribute
The final day, coinciding with Thailand’s Father’s Day, is a poignant tribute to the Kingdom’s history and monarchy. Special matches featuring athletes from across six continents will honour the legacy of His Majesty King Rama VIII and His Majesty King Rama X. Two prestigious trophies will be awarded: the His Majesty King Rama X Trophy for the most outstanding male athlete and the Her Majesty the Queen Trophy for the most outstanding female athlete.
“Thailand is rightfully proud of Muaythai’s global development. December 5 is a special day for our Kingdom, and we will continue to work toward inclusion, equality, and ‘One World, One Muaythai,’” said Somchart Charoenwatcharawit, President of PAT and Vice President of IFMA.
A Celebration of Culture and Unity
Organised under the patronage of the Amateur Muaythai Association of Thailand (AMTAT) and the Professional Muaythai Association of Thailand (PAT), both recognised by His Majesty the King, the festival embodies a unified effort to showcase Muaythai’s heritage and potential.
The IFMA, the only Olympic-recognised governing body for Muaythai, spearheads this landmark event, which highlights the sport’s transformative power in uniting communities worldwide.
