In a remarkable and truly historic visit, the International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA), the sole governing body of Muaythai recognized by the IOC, graced the Africa International Sports Convention (CISA) in Dakar, Senegal. Known as one of Africa’s most prestigious sports gatherings, CISA provided the perfect backdrop for IFMA to showcase the dynamic and inclusive nature of Muaythai to local communities and the wider African sporting community.

A Tradition of Engagement and Collaboration

In true IFMA tradition, as seen at major sporting conventions like SportAccord, the IFMA leadership, led by General Secretary Stephan Fox and Sports Director Janice Lyn, spearheaded an engaging and interactive Muaythai workshop. This event was organized in partnership with the Senegalese Muaythai Association, with President Ahmed Cheikh Bara Mbacke, General Secretary Papa Abdou Karim Diop, and Coach Matar Lo actively participating. The workshop brought together students and athletes of all ages and levels, creating a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere for learning and growth.

Support from Esteemed Guests

The event was further elevated by the presence of distinguished guests, including CISA President of the Organization Committee Diamil Faye, IOC Executive Board Member, Ivo Ferriani, and CEO of United Through Sports Julia Govinden. Their support and enthusiasm added to the significance of the occasion, underscoring the collaborative spirit of the event.

A Day of Connection and Celebration

The Good Morning and Good Evening Dakar Muaythai Workshops were a resounding success, with over 200 participants taking part in the sessions. Attendees experienced a blend of combative Muaythai techniques, HIIT style workout and Thai cultural elements, all designed to foster connections, drive the passion and spirit of the Muaythai enthusiasts and create connections and interests transcending traditional boundaries.

Special Recognition of the Senegalese Muaythai Association

A special mention goes to the Senegalese Muaythai Association and its President, Ahmed Cheikh Bara Mbacke, for their relentless efforts to grow Muaythai in Senegal inclusively for athletes of all abilities. Their dedication to fostering an inclusive environment for all athletes is truly commendable and aligns perfectly with IFMA’s mission.

In recognition of the collaboration and hard work in promoting Muaythai at CISA—the largest international sports convention in Africa—the IFMA leadership and the Senegalese Muaythai Association exchanged gifts of appreciation. This gesture symbolized the mutual respect and shared commitment to the development of Muaythai and inclusivity in sports.

A Triumphant Celebration

The day culminated in a moving ceremony, where certificates signed by UTS President and CISA Organizing Committee President Diamil Faye were presented. This symbolic gesture marked not only a successful partnership but also a renewed commitment to advancing sports for athletes of all abilities across Africa.

Commitment to Growth in Africa

As one of IFMA’s mandates this year, the organization is dedicated to expanding and developing Muaythai in Africa. This event in Dakar exemplified IFMA’s commitment to nurturing the sport across the continent and engaging with the local communities.
