
Paris, 7 August 2024 – The International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA) and the Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen their collaboration in promoting Muaythai across the global community. The signing ceremony took place at OLY House in Paris, with Dr Sakchye Tapsuwan, President of IFMA, and Mr Nasser Majali, Secretary General of ISSA, signing on behalf of HRH Prince Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al Faisal, President of ISSA.
This landmark agreement marks a significant step forward in the development of Muaythai, particularly within the 57 countries represented by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The MoU outlines the shared commitment of both organizations to foster the growth of Muaythai through educational initiatives, competition opportunities, and cultural exchange.
Dr Sakchye Tapsuwan, President of IFMA, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating:
“This agreement represents a pivotal moment for the future of Muaythai. By joining forces with ISSA, we are expanding the reach of our sport and embracing new opportunities to showcase the values of respect, honour, and tradition that Muaythai embodies. We are honoured to work alongside ISSA in this noble endeavour to bring the art of Muaythai to a broader audience.”
The MoU includes provisions for IFMA to appoint a Muaythai Technical Delegate for each edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG), ensuring that all Muaythai competitions are conducted in accordance with IFMA’s regulations. Additionally, the agreement facilitates the promotion of ISSA activities within IFMA’s global network and vice versa, enhancing the visibility and impact of both organizations’ initiatives.
Mr Nasser Majali, Secretary General of ISSA, also highlighted the importance of this partnership:
“We recognise the significant role that Muaythai plays in promoting unity and diversity within the sporting community. This MoU is a testament to our shared values and our commitment to fostering peace and solidarity through sport. We look forward to working closely with IFMA to achieve our mutual goals.”
The MoU is effective from 1 August 2024 and will remain in place until 31 December 2028, with the possibility of renewal. Both parties have also committed to exploring further avenues for collaboration, ensuring a dynamic and impactful partnership in the years to come.
