Thailand will be the host for one of Asia's biggest sporting events, The Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games. Once again, muaythai athletes will have the chance to experience the beautiful coast of Thailand as the venue for the muaythai events is set for Chonburi - Pattaya.
Muaythai will be hosted in the same venue as other sports such as taekwondo, wrestling, sambo, karate and jiu jitsu.
IFMA’s Director, Charissa Tynan, stated that “The muaythai athletes from some 45 Asian National Olympic Committees will once again have the opportunity to participate in the opening ceremony to celebrate the kick-off of this OCA recognised event alongside over 30 sports. What’s more, they will share the same arenas and podiums as the Olympic martial arts of taekwondo, wrestling and karate.”
In 2018 Pattaya hosted a hugely successful FISU muaythai world university championship. IFMA is once again planning many cultural and social events to take place during the Games. Muaythai through IFMA has been recognised by the Olympic Council of Asia since 2005 and was featured as a demonstration sport at the 1998 Asian Games.
