Ne-Yo, celebrated for his extraordinary talent as a singer, songwriter, and producer, has made a significant impact on the music industry. With chart-topping hits like “So Sick,” “Closer,” and “Miss Independent,” and accolades including three Grammy Awards, Ne-Yo’s influence in R&B is undeniable. However, this multi-talented artist is now embarking on an exciting new journey into the world of Muaythai.
Inspired by one of the most electrifying nights at the Rajadamnern World Series, held at the historic Rajadamnern Stadium, where IFMA’s world champions took center stage, Ne-Yo graced the fans of Thailand’s oldest Muaythai stadium with his presence just days before his sold-out Champagne & Roses Tour at Impact Arena in Bangkok. The main card of the RWS Final 4 Welterweight Division featured top fighters like Yodwicha, Erdem Dincer, and Hercules. The event culminated in a crowd-pleasing female main card bout between Thailand’s two-time IFMA gold medalist, Payahong Banchamek, and former WMC World Champion, Saya Ito from Japan, fighting for the prestigious Rajadamnern Stadium belt. This thrilling experience inspired Ne-Yo to explore Muaythai at IFMA’s flagship gym, Mongkon Academy, just days after his concert.
Ne-Yo’s introductory Muaythai class was led by IFMA Sport Director and former world champion, Janice Lyn, alongside world-renowned trainers Mikael Hultberg, former Swedish National Coach, and Kru Petch, head trainer in the reality TV shows Contender Asia and Challenger Muaythai, and coach of many world-renowned champions. Kru Petch has also twice been honored as Muaythai Trainer of the Year in 2011 and 2012 by the Sports Authority of Thailand.
The session was an inspiring introduction to the art and discipline of Muaythai, as Ne-Yo experienced firsthand the dedication and skill required in this martial art. His natural talent and athleticism for the art of eight limbs shocked the trainers, showcasing that his excellence extends beyond the music industry. His visit marks the beginning of what promises to be an exciting journey as he fulfills his love for martial arts and trains to achieve his personal fitness and martial arts goals.
The IFMA Muaythai family is thrilled to welcome Ne-Yo into their community. His commitment to learning and his passion for Muaythai echo the values of the sport. As he transitions from a music legend to a budding martial artist, the journey ahead is eagerly anticipated by fans and practitioners alike. Ne-Yo’s dedication to mastering Muaythai is a testament to his relentless pursuit of excellence, no matter the field.
To show IFMA’s appreciation of Ne-Yo’s visit and interest in Muaythai, Kru Petch presented Ne-Yo with a framed hand crafted golden Mongkon and tokens from the 2024 IFMA Youth World Championships as gifts for his children.
A heartfelt Chok Dee from the IFMA Family on the rest of your Champagne & Roses Asia Tour.
