In the face of severe economic hardship and ongoing security challenges, the Lebanese Muaythai Federation (LMF) continues to rise above adversity, showcasing the spirit and resilience that define the muaythai community in Lebanon.

In a powerful demonstration of commitment and perseverance, the LMF, in collaboration with the Lebanese University Sports Federation (FSUL), successfully organised the Lebanese University Muaythai Championship, bringing together 116 male and female student-athletes from 22 universities across the country. Athletes competed in a full-day event spanning over 11 consecutive hours, a testament to the passion and dedication driving the sport forward in Lebanon.

Despite the absence of financial support from national authorities, including the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Lebanese Olympic Committee, the LMF remains unwavering in its mission to preserve and develop the sport. The Championship stands as a clear example of what can be achieved through unity, resilience, and a deep-rooted belief in sport as a tool for positive change.

Muaythai has now become Lebanon’s leading combat sport, thanks to the collective efforts of the federation, clubs, coaches, and athletes who continue to promote the sport from grassroots to elite levels.

Speaking on behalf of the IFMA Education Commission, Dato Shahnaz Azmi, Chair of the Commission and IFMA Executive Committee Member, stated:

“This Championship is a powerful reminder of the values at the heart of muaythai — perseverance, respect, and community. We commend the Lebanese Muaythai Federation for providing young people with meaningful opportunities, even in the most challenging of circumstances. The inclusion of university students reflects IFMA’s long-standing commitment to education through sport.”

As the world governing body for muaythai, IFMA is fully recognised by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). This recognition has allowed the sport to be featured in multiple FISU events, giving student-athletes worldwide a platform to excel academically and athletically. University muaythai championships such as this one in Lebanon are vital in nurturing the next generation of leaders both inside and outside the ring.

IFMA congratulates the LMF and FSUL on this successful collaboration and looks forward to Lebanon continuing to inspire on the Arab, Asian, and international muaythai scenes.
