The city of Jonkoping will be the centre of the muaythai world as the host of the IFMA World Championships 2016. Athletes from all 5 continents will arrive in Sweden from today onwards and from the 18th to the 28th the Kinnarps Arena will be the centre stage for the female and male athletes which are trying to book their place in the 2017 World Games in Poland under patronage of the IOC.

The athlete representative for the 2016 World Championships Janice Lyn said that this championship will see one of the highest standard of athletes in any IFMA World Championships. The reason is that history will be made in 2017 when muaythai will make its debut in the World Games as one of the official medal sports. Only a month ago the IOC and the International World Games Association (IWGA) signed an MOU with the IOC for closer cooperation giving the World Games an even higher status. Over 700 athletes will compete for eleven sports showing the quality of athletes which will compete in the World Games.

The first teams have just arrived in Jonkoping. Team Canada, the first to arrive brought with them a huge delegation and many athletes which have high hopes and have gone through a national qualification process and will now be matched against the best of the world.
