In a historic gathering where sport, culture, and military fellowship converged, Muaythai legend Buakaw Banchamek took center stage at Siam Paragon Major Hall to lead a transformative training workshop. This unique event was hosted in partnership with the Military Sports Association of Thailand and the International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA).
The venue buzzed with energy as military athletes from around the world came together, united by a shared passion to learn from Buakaw—an icon who embodies both the fighting spirit and profound cultural heritage of Muaythai.

Opening the workshop, Buakaw reflected on Muaythai’s remarkable journey—from its ancient roots on Asian battlefields to its rise as a modern competitive sport. He passionately conveyed how the art’s history, values, and traditions have been carefully preserved and passed down through generations, creating a living bridge between past and present.

Adding national pride to the occasion, the President of the Association for the Promotion of Military Sports (Thailand), Dr. Sutin Klangsang, was in attendance to witness the growing synergy between sport and culture. His presence underscored Thailand’s enduring commitment to promoting Muaythai on both domestic and international stages.

Leading the CISM delegation was Colonel Nilton Gomes Rolim Filho, President of CISM. Under his guidance, the workshop seamlessly blended cultural reverence with intense physical training. Buakaw led participants through the sacred Wai Kru ceremony, emphasizing its importance as a heartfelt expression of respect and gratitude. He then demonstrated fundamental techniques that harmonize physical strength with spiritual discipline, inspiring all present to embody the true essence of Muaythai. Along side Buakaw was another Muaythai superstar and legend, Rittewada Petchyindee who helped to demonstrate these techniques.

Supporting this cultural immersion, IFMA Cultural Commission member Ajahn Sawaeng and IFMA Wai Kru gold medalist Yan Jia Chi also helped lead the Wai Kru session. Their leadership highlighted the ceremony’s elegance and spiritual depth, bridging international understanding through shared tradition.

Colonel Nilton Gomes Rolim Filho hailed the event as “a fantastic initiative that champions Muaythai’s rich cultural legacy, fosters camaraderie among international military teams, and deepens mutual respect.”
This landmark collaboration exemplifies CISM and IFMA’s dedication to honoring Muaythai’s traditions while expanding its global reach—building bridges of respect, culture, and sport that unite communities worldwide.
