
The 2025 Asian Muaythai Championships officially opened in Thai Nguyen, Vietnam with a welcoming and vibrant ceremony attended by distinguished guests, athletes, and officials from across the region.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Thai Nguyen Province and Head of the Organizing Committee, delivered a warm welcome on behalf of the host city. He spoke of Thai Nguyen’s pride in hosting the event and its commitment to fostering friendship and cultural exchange through sport.

Mr. Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet, Director General of the Sports Authority of Vietnam, emphasized the important role sport plays in diplomacy and youth development, and recognized Muaythai’s values of respect, tradition, and athletic discipline.

Mr. Hoang Quoc Vinh, Head of High Performance Sports, Sports Authority of Vietnam, also took the stage, highlighting the strategic importance of hosting international events in Vietnam. “These championships not only showcase Asia’s top Muaythai athletes,” he noted, “but also strengthen Vietnam’s profile as a destination for world-class sporting events and partnerships.”

Representing the international Muaythai community, IFMA President Dr. Sakchye Tapsuwan addressed the athletes with encouragement. “Muaythai brings us together,” he said, “and it is our shared responsibility to uphold its values both in and out of the ring.”

Mr. Stephan Fox, AIMS President, SportAccord Executive Committee Member, and IFMA Secretary General, reflected on Muaythai’s continued growth across Asia. “This event is a celebration not only of elite sport, but of the Muaythai community,” he noted. “From cultural heritage to inclusion, from youth engagement to fair play—we are proud to see Muaythai thrive on so many levels.”

The ceremony was also graced by honorable representatives from the Ministry of Culture and Sport and the National Olympic Committee of Vietnam, as well as IFMA Vice President, Sue Glassey, FAMA Secretary General, Mervyn Tan and several Executive Board Members, highlighting the significance of the occasion for both regional sport and international cooperation.
As is tradition, oaths were taken by representatives of the athletes, technical officials, and coaches. Wassof Rumijam (MAS) spoke on behalf of the athletes, Pham Thi Huong (VIE) represented the ITOs, and Jebreel Abu Isnaineh (UAE) stood for the coaches—all pledging integrity and fair play throughout the competition.



Guests enjoyed a colorful cultural performance from Thai Nguyen, showcasing the region’s rich traditions and warm hospitality. The performance served as both an artistic welcome and a proud representation of Vietnamese culture.





The Opening Ceremony set a positive tone for the week ahead—one of sportsmanship, cultural exchange, and unity among the Asian Muaythai family. Let the games begin!
