The Peruvian Muaythai Federation under the leadership of Rodrigo Jorquera is making some exceptional efforts towards the goals of the Sport Is Your Gang initiative.
Working with an existing programme called Alto Peru which works with kids from the projects, he is using muaythai as a tool to give marginalised youths a chance to re-shape and re-take control of their lives.
Through muaythai, children are learning respect not only for one another but also for themselves and are empowered with self-discipline and both physical and mental tools that will arm them for a better life.
IFMA would like to commend the Peruvian Muaythai Federation for the wonderful work they are doing and for the difference that they are making in so many lives. We hope that other National Federations will take this as an important example that Sport can truly make a difference.
