Two events raised awareness of The World Games 2017 in Wroclaw last weekend. On Saturday more than 600 people took part in the Fitness Marathon led by Anna Lewandowska, wife of Bayern Munich’s striker Robert Lewandowski. On Sunday, Polish handball legend Artur Siódmiak led a training session for children in one of Wroclaw’s primary schools.

Anna Lewandowska, Karate World Champion, is also a popular personal trainer and blogger. Not only that: she is The World Games 2017 ambassador too. Anna Lewandowska later stated that it was a very successful day for her family. Her Fitness Marathon was a huge success and several hours later her husband, Bayern Munich’s prolific striker Robert Lewandowski scored two goals against Eintracht Frankfurt.

“I support TWG2017 as I find it a valuable and important project. Most of the sports in the programme are accessible and easy to participate in. It is all about taking care of yourself. There is no better way to do it then being physically active”, Anna Lewandowska said.

Dominika, one of the participants, added: “That was a proper workout – challenging but still lots of fun.” he Marathon had two 1 hour long parts. First one – the Zumba was just a warm up before the training routine by Anna Lewandowska that included some karate techniques. Karate is one of sports on the programme of TWG2017.

Artur Siódmiak is The World Games ambassador, too. He takes the opportunity to conduct training sessions for children taking part in the Young Champions Academy (YCA) project. He invites other famous athletes to participate in the training. This time it was Adam Wójcik, former basketball player, all-time leader in the points classification of the Polish League and a Wrocław sport icon.

Artur Siódmiak said about TWG2017: ”The World Games is a fantastic opportunity to take kids from behind their desks and computers. It doesn’t really matter if you pick handball, basketball or Frisbee as your favorite sport. It is important to keep moving. TWG offers a wide range of sports, everybody will find something suitable.” Beach Handball will be showcased at The World Games in Wroclaw.

The Wrocław Organizing Committee participates in financing so the training sessions are free of charge for the young players. YCA involves not only proper training, but workshops on motivation and with qualified nutritionists. The Young Champions Academy project will grow with the help of WOC. Starting from September several more primary schools will get involved.
