IFMA Universal Qualification Rankings

The IFMA World Ranking indicates the position of athletes according to the points obtained at IFMA Official Events only on the ELITE level.

IFMA Qualification Events

The different events that count for ranking purposes are specified according their importance. Every IFMA Official Event has his own IMPORTANT FACTOR which is important in calculation the points in the ranking.

POINTS By Place

The table below indicates the different positions (places) an athlete along with the corresponding awarded points.

1st place = 100 points

2nd place = 80 points

3rd place = 60 points

5th place = 40 points

9th place = 20 points

17th place = 10 points

POINTS for byes (walk-overs)

Points for wins by byes (walk-overs) count as 50% of the points from the regular win of the fight.

NUMBER of Winning Bouts

The more fights a competitor must win to secure the gold in a given category, the more points they earn. For instance, a fighter who wins gold after four matches will earn more points than one who wins gold after three matches.

This point system applies to all rankings: the more wins required to achieve a particular placement, the more points awarded to the competitor.

PERIOD of Counting

The ranking period begins with the most recent World Games and ends with the last IFMA Official Event before the next World Games. This ranking period is also used for qualification for the upcoming World Games.

At the start of each qualification cycle, the standings will reset to include only the points earned from the last World Games, with no point decay applied.

TIE in the Rankings

If there is a tie in the IFMA World Ranking, then the following criteria will be applicable counting:

  • Better results on the last World Championship

ATHLETES in multiple Weight Categories

In the ranking system, 100% of the points scored in a fighter’s primary weight division are counted. If the fighter has points from another weight category, those points are counted at 50% of their value.

**Example:**

– Fighter A has 1000 points in the 81kg category and 600 points in the 75kg category.

– In the 81kg ranking, Fighter A has 1000 points from the 81kg category (100%) + 300 points from the 75kg category (50%) = 1300 points.

– In the 75kg ranking, Fighter A has 500 points from the 81kg category (50%) + 600 points from the 75kg category (100%) = 1100 points.

METHOD for Ranking Points Calculation

Pattern For 1st place

= Points for the medal – Points for wins by walkover

= IF* x (100 x (1 + (Number of Winning fights /10) ) – (Points for the medal / number of wins x number of wins by walkover / 2)

Pattern For 2nd, 3rd place etc…

= Points for the medal – Points for wins by walkover

= Important Factor* x (Points for Place** x Win statistic***) – (Points for the medal / number of wins x number of wins by walkover / 2)

*IMPORTANT FACTOR – section 1

**POINTS FOR PLACE – section 2

***Win statistic = (1 / Number of fights) x Number of Wins
