A joint Executive Board meeting took place between the board members of the Federation of Amateur Muaythai Asia (FAMA) and IFMA to discuss the muaythai agenda for 2021 and 2021 in Asia. The meeting took place during the Asian Championships. The meeting was attended by all FAMA board members, and chaired by Dr Sakchye Tapsuwan (Thailand) in his capacity as president of IFMA.

FAMA general secretary Mervyn Tan (Singapore) was in attendance, as was FAMA VIce-President Dato Shah (Malaysia)  – who is also Technical Director for this event. Mr Stephan Fox, general secretary IFMA was also in attendance and IFMA Sport Director Charissa Tynan.

Other FAMA board members attending the meeting and the championships included Vice-President Farhat Amankulov, and of course Mr Wu Wei Keong, head of the Macau Muaythai Association and host of this successful tournament.

The key issue on the agenda was planning for the next two years of events in Asia, and also for global events which are open to Asian athletes.

Mr Lucas Managuelod (The Philippines) presented on the plans for the SEA Games 2019 which will be held in his home country. This is an exciting opportunity for athletes, and follows the successful participation of muaythai at the 2017 SEA Games in Malaysia.

The board discussed how best to continue cooperation between IFMA and the Asian federations as they move forward. FAMA through IFMA is a member of the GAISF sports family, which brings great benefits to the athletes including access to exciting multi-sport games over the next few years.

Another key goal is to gain participation for muaythai in the 2022 Asian Games, to be held in Beijing China.

Mr Wu Wei Keong thanked everyone for attending the tournament, and said he is very proud to host 31 nations in his home country for this event.

Chair of the Athletes’ Commission Janice Lyn (Canada) presented at the meeting on plans to develop athlete participation in both organisations.
