The Kingdom of Bahrain has come alive with the energy of over 8,000 young athletes from 45 nations and territories across Asia, as the 3rd Asian Youth Games officially open in Manama. Among the 26 sports featured across more than 20 world-class venues, one moment stands out as truly historic: the debut of Muaythai on the Asian Youth Games stage.

For the first time ever, youth athletes from across the continent have arrived to represent their nations in both the combat and cultural disciplines of Muaythai. From the precision and power of the ring to the grace and tradition of Wai Kru and Mai Muay, the inclusion of Muaythai marks a new era for the sport and its young practitioners.

Excitement is palpable as teams from East Asia to the Middle East, from Southeast Asia to Central Asia, gather in Manama. The arrival of youth athletes—many of whom are national champions and rising stars—signals not just a competition, but a celebration of culture, unity, and the Olympic values of friendship, excellence, and respect.

The cultural divisions, recognized as full medal events, offer a unique opportunity for youth to showcase the artistry and heritage of Muaythai. These performances are more than rituals—they are living expressions of identity, discipline, and pride.

The combat divisions, meanwhile, promise thrilling displays of skill, strategy, and sportsmanship. For many of these young athletes, this is their first taste of a multi-sport event on the continental stage—a stepping stone toward future Olympic dreams.

As the Games unfold, IFMA celebrates this milestone not only as a victory for Muaythai, but as a triumph for youth empowerment, cultural exchange, and the unifying power of sport.

Welcome to Manama. Welcome to history in the making. Welcome to the future of Muaythai.
