The 2023 Anderson House VIP Reception was a truly momentous occasion, held to commemorate the 190 years anniversary of Thai-U.S. diplomatic relations. The historic building which now hosts the American Revolution Institute pf the Society of Cincinnati served as a perfect setting for this grand event, which was attended by esteemed guests from both countries, including members of the Thai and U.S. governments, along with various business and cultural leaders.

The reception was the prelude to the 2023 Sawatdee Thai Fest, a 3-day event in which IFMA and USMF took part as an important partner.

Upon arrival, guests were welcomed with traditional Thai music and treats from local vendors offering exquisite cuisine. Everyone then gathered in the grand ballroom for speeches given by U.S. Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin and the Ambassador of Thailand to the United States H.E. Tanee Sangrat as they presented the Joint Statement on Thai-U.S. Friendship and Cooperation in commemoration of the milestone anniversary.

Afterwards, attendees had the privilege to explore various exhibits showcasing artifacts that highlighted some of the most significant moments in Thai-U.S relations throughout history, such as photographs from visits made by past U.S presidents to Thailand and memorabilia from renowned peacekeeping missions between the two countries over the years.

Amongst the various activities, WMC and IFMA Multiple world champion Bua Kaw accompanied by the IFMA Pi Muay band delivered a stunning muaythai performance to whet the appetites of for more to come at the DC Sawatdee Thai Fest in the coming days.

To conclude the evening’s festivities, everyone enjoyed a special performance by Grammy Award winning artist Charice Pempengco who sang her rendition of “A Whole New World” accompanied by traditional dancers dressed in exquisite silk costumes that evoked images of ancient Siam—a powerful symbol to celebrate this momentous diplomatic achievement between Thailand and the United States!

IFMA was represented by its General Secretary and United Through Sports President Stephan Fox, President of the US Muaythai Federation Michael Corley and Kru Thanat Thanachon of the Little Giant Gym. It was an honour and we would like to thank the Royal Thai Government and the Royal Thai Embassy under the great leadership of H.E. Ambassador Thanee for this great cooperation.
