Athletes and officials from around the world represented their countries today at the weigh-ins and checks for the opening of the IFMA World Cup in Kazan.
This exciting tournament is also a qualifier for The World Games in Wroclaw next year, with the gold medal winners from 11 weigh categories in male and female divisions going on to that multi-sport tournament.
The weights for The World Games are 51, 54 and 60 for women, and in eight divisions for the men 54, 63.6, 65, 71, 75, 81, and 91kgs.
Biting temperatures outside were no obstacle to everyone making weight, even those from countries where snow is unheard of in winter!
The weigh-ins and medical check-ups took place at the Grand Kazan hotel where the athletes and coaches are staying, all meals and meetings also take place in this hotel so life is simple and the athletes can concentrate on the competition. The venue, the three-floor Basketball Arena is just minutes away meaning no delays between home and the event.
Later this evening the Team Manager meeting took place, also in the hotel.
The organisers from the Muaythai Kazan committee further explained the transport, food and hotel arrangements so there will be no confusion when bouts start tomorrow.
And then the crucial part of the day – the draw. This is done by the best qualified of the IFMA referees, and attended by the team managers. Some of the boxers also came by to see who they would face.
The daily programme and results will be posted online at this IFMA website so you can follow your country in competition.
