Thailand welcomed over 1,300 athletes, officials and delegates from 102 countries to the
IFMA Thailand World Championship, billed as muaythai is coming home.
The world’s top muaythai athletes marched proudly into the built stadium and arena in the
heart of Bangkok at the Sport Authority of Thailand. The Royal Cadets marched in baring
two Royal trophies graciously donated by His Majesty the King.


The Sports Minister of Thailand, H.E Pipat Ratchakitprakan welcomed the representatives of
over 50 embassies and consulates with a special reception and followed with a warm
welcome to all the athletes who stood proudly behind their country flags. Minister
Ratchakitprakan stated that he felt proud to welcome the muaythai athletes of the world to
the kingdom, wishing them luck for the competitions and unforgettable memories.


IFMA President Dr Sakchye Tapsuan made a heartfelt speech stating that it is the first time
an elite competition is held in Thailand since the IOC recognition in 2016. This is to be the
first round of qualifiers for the 2021 World Games in the USA.
IFMA General Secretary Stephan Fox addressed the athletes as the ambassadors, to
promote muaythai sharing the important Olympic values of excellence, respect, friendship
and fairplay. A glittering cultural show with over 100 performers took the participants back
in time setting the stage for the competition.
