The opening ceremony of the 6th Edition of the East Asian Muaythai Championships in Hong Kong, 2024, marked a momentous occasion for the Muaythai community. Graced by distinguished guests from the Hong Kong government, Sports Ministry, National Olympic Committee, Royal Thai Embassy, and IFMA Presidents and Executive Board members, the ceremony showcased the unity and spirit of the sport.

The ceremony commenced with a thrilling performance by the Lanna and Thepbodint School Fight Team from Thailand showcasing the beauty and tradition of Muay Boran. The exciting performance was followed by a beautiful flag parade, featuring the ten countries in attendance, and a solemn procession of referees and judges. This display set the tone for the prestigious event, emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship and fair play.

Mr. Neville Kotewell, President of the Muaythai Association of Hong Kong, China, delivered a heartwarming speech, highlighting the longstanding relationship between Hong Kong and IFMA. He emphasized the importance of working together to build a better future for athletes and the IFMA family within the Olympic Family. Mr. Kotewell noted that the East Asian Championships represent the pinnacle event for the Muaythai Association of Hong Kong.

Chairman Jason Fan extended a warm welcome to the esteemed delegates and guests, expressing gratitude for their continued support, which has contributed to another successful year for Hong Kong on the international stage.

Sport Director Janice Lyn welcomed the guests and athletes, and expressed heartfelt thanks to the Hong Kong Muaythai Federation for their longstanding commitment to IFMA. She acknowledged their efforts in providing high-level events that allow athletes to shine and ongoing commitment to being a trail blazer of Muaythai for events in Asia.

The ceremony also included the taking of oaths by key representatives: Athlete Jiahui Lin from China, Coach Yang Chih-ju from Chinese Taipei, and Technical Official Mr. LI Kam Suen from Hong Kong, underscoring the commitment to integrity and fair play.

Plaques of appreciation were presented by the Sport Director to President Neville Kotewell, Chairman Jason Fan, and Mr. Chaturont Chaiyakam, Consul-General of the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Hong Kong, in recognition of their invaluable contributions.
