The 30th Anniversary National Muaythai Championship officially opened with a spectacular ceremony in Yekaterinburg, Russia, organised by the Russian Muaythai Federation (RMF). Recognised solely by the Russian National Olympic Committee (NOC) and the Ministry of Sport for all aspects of Muaythai in Russia, the RMF has been instrumental in developing the sport nationwide.
The championship was preceded by an extensive series of regional qualifications, with thousands of athletes competing across the country for a chance to participate in the national event. The best athletes from each region gathered in Yekaterinburg, making this championship a true representation of Russia’s Muaythai talent and grassroots development.
The opening ceremony set a dynamic tone for the event, featuring traditional Russian performances and a grand parade of athletes. The championship was honoured by the presence of key dignitaries, including:
- The Governor of Sverdlovsk Oblast
- The Mayor of Yekaterinburg
- The President of the Russian Muaythai Federation, Dmitry Putilin
Their attendance highlighted the strong governmental and institutional support for Muaythai in Russia.
Speaking at the event, RMF President Dmitry Putilin emphasised Russia’s commitment to the global Muaythai community:
“Russia is one of the founding members of IFMA. We hold two important positions in the IFMA Executive Committee and also within the European Muaythai Federation (EMF). Russia will continue to ensure development in all regions, from grassroots to elite.”
As the championship progresses, all gold medalists will earn the opportunity to represent Russia at the upcoming IFMA World Championships, ensuring that the country’s best athletes compete on the international stage.
