The 2024 East Asian Championships officially kicked off with welcomes and greetings at the Team Manager Meeting, setting the stage for an unforgettable event. Representatives from Hong Kong, China, Chinese Taipei, India, Bangladesh, Mongolia, and South Korea gathered, each filled with anticipation for the coming days.
The president of the Muaythai Association of Hong Kong, Mr. Neville Charles Kotewell, opened the event with a warm welcome speech sharing his gratitude and appreciation to IFMA and the participating countries in attendance. Alongside him, Chairman Jason Fan and Secretary General Bernie Lam extended their greetings to all the participating countries, and their excitement for the days to come.
Sport Director Janice Lyn took the participants through the event details. She covered everything from medical protocols to weigh-ins, and provided comprehensive information about the educational workshops. These workshops will focus on anti-doping measures for athletes and the IFMA and WMC R&J Course, ensuring that all participants are well-prepared and informed in line with the spirit of excellence and fair play.
Technical Delegate Abby Nelson from Australia provided an in-depth overview of the proper etiquette and procedures for athletes and coaches, both in and outside the ring. Her guidance included protocols for weigh-ins, in-competition conduct, handling fouls, and best practices to ensure a fair and respectful environment for all involved.
With the groundwork laid, the East Asian countries are geared up and excited for the thrilling and memorable days ahead.
