In the heart of Space 42 Arena, where the rhythm of Muaythai pulses through every corner, a different kind of energy filled the room—one of reflection, creativity, and connection. The Youth Representative Meeting at the IFMA Youth World Championships in Abu Dhabi was more than a gathering; it was a celebration of the voices shaping the future of Muaythai.
Led by Youth, for Youth

The session was guided by two dynamic IFMA interns, Aaliyan Khurram and Annabelle Tucker—young leaders passionate about Muaythai and eager to explore its evolving landscape through a fresh lens. Their mission was simple yet powerful: to listen, learn, and gather insights directly from the athletes who live and breathe the sport. With empathy and enthusiasm, they created a space where every voice mattered and every story had a place.
Warming Up with Heart and Humor

The meeting began with a lively icebreaker: “If you could describe your Muaythai journey in one word, what would it be?” Words like empowering, transformative, family, and discipline echoed around the room—each a testament to the personal growth sparked by the sport.
A quick poll added a playful twist: participants discovered who had traveled the farthest (a young athlete from Peru) and who had been training the longest (a proud athlete from Sri Lanka). Laughter and applause set the tone for a session that was both meaningful and fun.

Engagement Round: Stories That Inspire
The heart of the meeting came alive during the engagement round, where youth representatives shared their experiences and dreams:
- A UK athlete spoke about how Muaythai taught him respect and helped him focus better in school.
- A young fighter from Greece shared her pride in the pre-fight dance ritual unique to her gym, symbolizing unity and tradition.
- A participant from the Philippines advocated for more mental health support for young athletes, sparking nods of agreement across the room.

When asked how they support teammates, responses ranged from celebratory chants to quiet moments of encouragement after tough losses—reminding everyone that Muaythai is as much about community as it is about competition.
Creative Sparks: Dreaming Big Together
Participants then split into small groups for a creative challenge: “Imagine you’re IFMA President for a day—what would you do for youth?” Ideas flowed freely:
- A global mentorship program connecting young athletes with seasoned champions
- A financial support system to help cover travel costs, ensuring teams can showcase their talents on the world stage
The rapid-fire game “Muaythai makes me feel…” brought out words like strong, alive, confident, respectful, and unstoppable—a powerful reminder of the emotional depth this sport offers.

A Message to the World
As the meeting wrapped up, each participant shared a message for youth around the world who couldn’t be there. The responses were heartfelt and hopeful:
“Muaythai is more than fighting—it’s finding your strength and sharing it.” “No matter where you come from, you belong in this family.” “Train hard, stay humble, and never stop dreaming.”

A Future Forged in Unity
The Youth Representative Meeting was a shining example of IFMA’s commitment to empowering the next generation—not just as athletes, but as leaders, thinkers, and changemakers. In a world that often moves too fast, this gathering reminded us that when youth speak, the future listens.
And in Abu Dhabi, it listened loud and clear.
