The United Muaythai Association of India (UMAI), the sole recognised Muaythai federation in India under IFMA, successfully held its General Assembly and Elections for the 2025-2029 term. With representatives from 30 states in attendance, the event marked a significant milestone in the continued growth and unification of Muaythai in India.
The Assembly was graced by esteemed officials from the Indian Government and was observed by Mr. Mervyn Tan, FAMA Secretary General, IFMA Legal Commission Chair & IFMA Executive Committee Member, who represented IFMA and FAMA. Mr. Tan shared insights on IFMA’s and FAMA’s vision as an IOC and OCA-recognised federation and commended the efforts of the leadership under both IFMA and FAMA-sanctioned events.

Key Statements from the Assembly
Outgoing President Prasenjit Singh emphasised the significance of grassroots development in advancing Muaythai towards the elite level, stating:
“The importance of grassroots development in India towards the elite level is crucial, ensuring Muaythai is accessible to all abilities and all walks of life.”
General Secretary Shri Ram Choudhary highlighted the collective effort of all states in unifying the sport under a single federation, saying:
“All states have worked closely together to unite Muaythai in India towards a single federation where the athletes come first.”
Mr. Mervyn Tan, in his address, praised the leadership and direction of UMAI, stating:
“Unity, transparency, and a shared vision will guide the future of Muaythai in India, and India will shine bright.”
He further acknowledged UMAI’s efforts in aligning with IFMA’s global governance structures and its commitment to athlete development and inclusion.

With the newly elected leadership team in place, India now shifts its focus towards upcoming major IFMA events:
