An agreement inaugurating the cooperation of the City of Wroclaw and the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in the organization and promotion of The World Games 2017 was signed. The signatories of the document werde the Mayor of Wrocław, Rafał Dutkiewicz, and the Marshall for the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Cezary Przybylski, along with the Vice-marshall of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Radosław Mołoń.
The aim of the agreement is to combine organizational success with the long term value provided by the creation in the region of optimal conditions for the popularization and development of a culture of physical activity among residents. A concrete reflection of this idea is the ongoing activation of the youngest residents, e.g. through programs for kids and youths, and also other projects directed towards the remaining age groups, which will be implemented in subsequent stages of preparation.
The agreement signing ceremony also constitutes a step towards broader cooperation including such areas as: sports infrastructure construction and modernization, the promotion of the sports disciplines included those from The World Games 2017 list, the preparation of security for the Games, the organization of test events and the promotion of the city as well as voivodeship as the hosts of TWG 2017.
The cooperation inaugurated between Wrocław and the Lower Silesian Voivodeship opens a wide field for the effective conduction of the Games. It is also an opportunity to give real shape to the words of Jose Miquel Abad, CEO of the Summer Olympic Games of 1992 in Barcelona, who said that “The Olympics are to serve the City, and not the City to serve the Olympics. Because the Olympics are temporary, but the City is permanent.”
