
The Sri Lanka Muaythai National Championship 2026 concluded with resounding success, marking a major milestone in the continued development of Muaythai in the country. Organized by the Sri Lanka Muaythai Federation the sole officially recognized national federation by the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Sports Sri Lanka—the event reflected a truly united national effort toward grassroots and elite development.

With the full support of the Royal Thai Embassy in Colombo, the championship was held from 4–8 January 2026 at the iconic Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.
Over five days, the event delivered a seamless and professionally managed competition, reflecting the highest standards of international Muaythai. Junior divisions were contested on 5–6 January, followed by the senior championships on 7–8 January, ensuring a clear and structured pathway across all age groups and weight categories. All bouts were conducted in full alignment with the regulations of the International Federation of Muaythai Associations, upholding safety, fairness, and sporting integrity.

The 2026 edition brought together an impressive 450 athletes from 35 clubs, including elite teams from government and military sports organizations such as the Sri Lanka Army and the Sri Lanka Navy. Their participation significantly raised the competitive standard and provided inspiration for young athletes across the nation. Throughout the championship, the atmosphere inside the stadium embodied the true spirit of Muaythai discipline, respect, friendship, and fair play.

Importantly, the championship also served as an official qualifying event for upcoming IFMA competitions, including Youth and Senior World Championships, the Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games, and other major international events, further underlining its strategic importance within the global Muaythai pathway.

A highlight of the championship was the recognition of the Best Male and Best Female Athletes, awarded to the outstanding Murthasa siblings. Bassam Murthasa and Maryam Murthasa delivered exceptional performances, showcasing technical excellence, true warrior spirit, and exemplary sportsmanship. As proud medalists of the IFMA Youth World Championships, both athletes continue to represent Sri Lanka with distinction on the international stage.

The event was further honored by the presence of numerous VIP guests from the Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Sports, and the Royal Thai Embassy, underscoring the growing national and international recognition of Muaythai in Sri Lanka.

More than a competition, the Sri Lanka Muaythai National Championship 2026 served as a powerful platform for identifying emerging talent, strengthening national unity, and inspiring the next generation of athletes. It also reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s steadily rising presence on the global Muaythai stage.
