The National Championships organised by the Russian Muaythai Federation (RMF) have become one of the most competitive domestic events in the global Muaythai landscape.
Held this year in Noyabrsk, the championships marked a historic milestone as Muaythai was staged for the first time beyond the Polar Circle, in a city located within the Arctic region. The event once again underlined the depth of talent and the strength of a system that has been carefully built and refined over many years.

Where the National Team Is Earned
Within RMF, selection to the national team is widely regarded as the highest sporting honour. That prestige has been cultivated through structured regional pathways, strong internal competition, and consistent international success.
The level of competition is so deep that many within the Muaythai community believe winning a medal at RMF Nationals can, in certain divisions, be as demanding — if not more demanding — than medalling at World Championships. One of the reasons: domestic brackets are often filled with internationally experienced athletes.

Professionals Returning to the National Stage
One of the defining characteristics of RMF Nationals is the return of active professional fighters to the amateur stage.
Rising star Zarina Islamova, recognised for her appearances at the Rajadamnern World Series, is among those who continue to compete domestically.

Alongside her are several international professionals who are regular competitors at Rajadamnern Stadium and Lumpinee Stadium.
Among them:
- Egor Bikrev
- Salavat Isaev
- Dmitry Changelia
- Dmitry Vasenev
- Gadzhi Medzhidov
- Aik Begian
- Rustam Yunusov
- Ovsep Aslanyan
- Savely Dorogavsev
- Egor Ryaskin
In nearly every weight category, athletes with professional experience appear in the brackets. For many, competing for the national team remains the ultimate objective.
Egor Bikrev (best athlete of the tournament), who competes internationally at the Rajadamnern World Series (RWS) and is building a strong professional career abroad, explained why he continues to represent RMF at the amateur level:
“I need to defend the honour of Kuzbass not only in the professional ring, but also in amateur competitions. To be part of the RMF national team is a great honour for me — I want to earn the title of the IFMA World Champion.”
He also noted the technical adjustment required when switching formats:
“It always takes a little time to adapt from a professional to an amateur fighting style, but my coach and I are used to this process. With his support, the transition becomes straightforward.”

RMF President Dmitry Putilin emphasised the significance of this dynamic:
“For our athletes, the opportunity to compete for the national team is the highest sporting goal. Even those who have fought on major professional stages return to the national championship with great enthusiasm. Representing your country is an honour for any athlete.”
He added that the high organisational standards of RMF competitions and the comprehensive national team training camps create an environment where athletes are motivated not only by results, but by responsibility and pride.

The National Team Camp: A Benchmark of Excellence
Central to the prestige of RMF is the national team training camp. Entry into this camp is regarded as a major milestone in an athlete’s career. Before every major international competition, RMF conducts a two-week intensive training camp held at Olympic facilities, reflecting its official recognition by the National Olympic Committee. These camps operate within a full high-performance structure, including technical preparation, conditioning, tactical analysis, sports science support, and collective team training designed specifically to prepare athletes for international competition.
For many competitors, earning a place in the national team camp is as significant as winning a medal. The environment brings together the strongest athletes in each weight division, creating daily internal competition that raises standards even further. It is widely understood within the system that reaching the camp means joining the highest level of preparation available in the country.
A System Built on Structure
The strength of RMF lies in the clarity of its pathway:
- Regional championships
- Structured qualification system
- Transparent national team selection
- Comprehensive training camps
- Consistent technical standards
Athletes understand what is required to reach the highest level. That clarity fuels competition, and competition sustains performance.
Domestic Depth, International Results
The sustained international success of the national team reflects:
- Deep internal competition
- World class level preparation
- A culture where domestic titles carry genuine value
When professional fighters return to RMF Nationals, they reinforce the prestige of the system. Medals are earned through depth and discipline. Standards are protected through structure.
Depth Across Every Weight Division
Following the National Championships, the structure of the national team is clearly defined. Gold medalists form the core of the squad for the IFMA Muaythai Senior World Championships 2026 in Malaysia, while silver and bronze medalists remain fully integrated within the extended national team structure, including selection pathways toward the IFMA Muaythai European Championships 2026 in Paris and other major international events.
The competitive depth is such that RMF can field a complete, highly skilled team across all weight categories at any moment. Bronze medalists are retained as third-ranked athletes within the national team system, regularly attending training camps, undergoing centralised medical examinations, and remaining prepared to replace first or second-ranked athletes if required.
The International Federation of Muaythai Associations calendar is full, and RMF maintains the capacity to deploy full teams to events such as the IFMA Cup of the Caucasus or other tournaments without compromising standards. In some cases, even a single federal district can assemble a competitive team capable of performing at a high international level.
The RMF National Championships continue to demonstrate how a strong domestic foundation — built over years — produces both prestige and performance at the highest level.
One World. One Muaythai.
