The 30th June 2011 saw the successful press conference being organised by the World Muaythai Council, the world governing body for the sport of muaythai, regarding the launch of the WMC Ultimate Muaythai TV program, which is set to be broadcasted by the Thai TV channel, Thai Global Network (TGN).

TGN is the first satellite broadcaster in Thailand. It covers 170 countries over 5 continents, reaching billion of potential viewers worldwide, through the employment of 6 satellites. TGN has been true to its determination in promoting the activities of His Majesty the King of Thailand and the government’s policies regarding exports, foreign investment, industrial and agricultural supports, cultural awareness, and tourism.

TGN offers a variety of international related programs and live news from TV5 studio, all of which aim to update the international audience on current activities in Thailand. Other than being available on TV, TGN also uses radio channel FM 94.0 MHz to reach out to a vaster public, allowing the domestic audience to alternately choose whichever type of media they prefer.

The WMC Ultimate Muaythai program will be aired live weekly in 177 countries worldwide, every Sunday from 20:20 to 22:20 (GMT+7) from Rangsit Stadium. The first event in the series is set to premiere on July 10th, 2011.

 

Headlining the fight card for the inauguration of the show will be the Muaythai Superstar twins Pongsisi and Petchsiri Por Siripong. Among other exciting bouts, the opening night will include a special female bout between Daoroong Kiatpratum and Sao Muang Intra Sor Sopit, as well as an international bout between Thailand’s Fah Sa-tah Look Hin On and Yogoyama from Japan.

General Chetta Thanajaro, President of the WMC chaired the press conference, which was held at the Golden Tulip Hotel. He stated that the organisation of the WMC Ultimate Muaythai program was in line with the government’s initiative to support Thailand’s national sport and to promote the national treasure to the world, hoping to boost awareness and consequentially, tourism. General Chetta added that the show will be a means of maintaining culture and traditional values intact in the sport of muaythai, persisting on passing on the knowledge from generation to generation.
