The 2024 European Muaythai Championships officially commenced with an electrifying Opening Ceremony and the first bouts at the iconic Palace of Youth & Sports in Pristina, Kosovo. Over 300 athletes and officials from 30 nations proudly paraded into the stadium, showcasing the unity and diversity of the Muaythai community.

The ceremony was graced by an array of distinguished guests. The Mayor of Prishtina, Përparim Rama, and Ismet Krasniqi, President of the Olympic Committee of Kosovo, both delivered warm and inspirational speeches that resonated with the spirit of the event. Their words underscored the importance of sporting camaraderie and the role of such events in fostering international friendship and mutual respect.

The President of the Kosovo Muaythai Federation, Shpejtim Ahmetaj, as the host of the event, extended a heartfelt welcome to all the visiting teams, expressing gratitude for their participation and the shared passion for Muaythai.

Speaking on behalf of IFMA was the Director General Charissa Tynan, who highlighted the significance of the European Championships as a testament to the unity and growth of the sport. Tynan expressed pride in the resilience and dedication of all athletes and officials present, emphasising the importance of mutual respect, fair play, and the role of Muaythai in promoting cultural understanding across nations.

Special Plaques of Appreciation were presented to the distinguished guest VIP speakers by EMF President and IFMA Vice President Hasan Yildiz. This gesture symbolised the deep gratitude and recognition of their support and contributions to the success of the event.

The ceremony was also attended by notable VIPs, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mrs. Safa Kocoglu, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of the Turkish Republic, and Mr. Sabri Tunç Angılı, the Turkish Republic’s Ambassador to Pristina. Their presence underscored the event’s international significance and the strong support for Muaythai as a growing sport.

A highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the oaths. The Athlete Oath was taken by Vasilios Marios Kamas from Greece, the Coach Oath by Tomas Tadlanek from Slovakia, and the Technical Officials Oath by Arben Jonuzi from Kosovo. These solemn oaths reaffirmed the commitment of all participants to fair play, respect, and the values of Muaythai.

Adding to the grandeur of the evening, attendees were treated to a cultural performance that celebrated Kosovo’s rich heritage. The traditional dance, Vallja e Shotes, captivated the audience with its dynamic movements and vibrant expression, providing a glimpse into the cultural heart of the host nation.

Following the Opening Ceremony, the championships roared into action with an impressive 20 bouts taking place over two rings. The athletes demonstrated exceptional skill, sportsmanship, and determination, setting the tone for an exciting and competitive championship ahead.
