Final Destination: Lima, Peru

The International World Games ASSOCIATION has assessed the bids from three potential host cities for The World Games 2021. To conclude its on-site visits, the Bid Evaluation Committee will go to Lima/Peru on the 26th of October. Following visits to the city of Ufa in the Russian Republic of Bashkortostan and Birmingham/USA, the visit to Lima will be the “final stop” in the evaluation process.

The decision on whether Ufa, Birmingham, or Lima will be the successor to Wroclaw (Poland), host of the 10th edition in 2017, will be announced in January 2015. IWGA President José Perurena López expressed satisfaction with his initial review of the bid files: “All three bid documents fulfill the high expectations that we have regarding a host city for a multi-sport event.”

IWGA Vice-President Max Bishop, heading the Bid Evaluation Committee, added: “All three cities probably have the capacity to organize good games, so the small things may well count when it comes to making a decision.”

During the four-day stay in the capital city of Peru, meetings will take place with the responsible representatives from Lima to discuss the contents of the bidding document. The team will inspect HOTELS, infrastructure and of course the existing sport venues. The World Games took place on the South American continent for the first time in Cali, Colombia 2013. The ninth edition of this multisport event boasted more than 500,000 spectators. The PROGRAM of The World Games comprises more than 25 sports and draws 4500 participants from around 100 countries.
