Today, we join the world of sport in celebrating a remarkable leader, visionary, and friend to all athletes—José Perurena—on the occasion of his 80th birthday.

Your journey from an Olympic canoeist representing Spain at the 1968 Games, to a globally respected sports leader, has inspired us all. Throughout your life, you have shown unwavering dedication—not only to your own sport but to the entire sporting movement, including our Muaythai community.
As President of the International World Games Association, your leadership has elevated the status of countless sports, especially those like Muaythai that found a global platform through The World Games. Your understanding—as a former elite athlete yourself—has brought compassion, integrity, and progress to every role you’ve held.
You have championed the values we hold dear: discipline, respect, and perseverance. Under your guidance, the IWGA has grown stronger, moved closer to the Olympic Movement, and offered opportunities for sports like ours to shine on the international stage.
From the signing of the renewed MoU with the IOC to your continuous efforts in strengthening the global sporting family, your legacy is one of unity and impact. You have been a true ally and supporter of Muaythai, and we are proud to be part of the journey you’ve shaped.
On this special day, we send you our deepest gratitude and warmest wishes. May your 80th birthday be filled with joy, reflection, and the pride of knowing the tremendous difference you’ve made.
With respect and admiration,
IFMA FAMILY
