The city of Odessa has once again demonstrated why it is proudly regarded as the capital of Ukrainian Muaythai, hosting a major national sporting event that brought together the country’s strongest athletes in a powerful display of resilience, unity, and sporting excellence.

The Ukrainian Cup and National Championship, held under the auspices of the International Federation of Muaythai Associations and the European Muaythai Federation, welcomed approximately 250 athletes from 15 regions across Ukraine. The event served as the official finals of the Ukrainian National Championships and as the decisive selection stage for members of the National Team preparing for the IFMA World Championships 2026.
For many competitors, it marked their first opportunity to perform at elite level. The atmosphere was electric — the ring reverberated with powerful exchanges while the stands responded with pride and emotion. Coaches, officials, and spectators alike commended the exceptionally high technical standard, from refined execution of the Art of Eight Limbs to tactical discipline and ring intelligence. Each bout reflected courage, respect, and determination.

The event was attended and supported by Gennady Trukhanov, former Mayor of Odesa, former President of the Ukraine Muaythai Federation, and Honorary President of the European Muaythai Federation. His longstanding contribution has played a significant role in the development of Muaythai within the region and across Europe. Odesa also holds historic importance for the sport, having hosted the first European Muaythai Championship in 1998 — a milestone widely recognised as a defining moment in the growth of Muaythai on the continent.

Beyond medals and podium places, the competition carried deeper significance. It marked a critical step in preparing Ukraine’s finest athletes for international representation. The top performers earned the honour of competing under the IFMA banner on the world stage, continuing Ukraine’s proud tradition in global Muaythai.
The Ukraine Muaythai Federation, one of IFMA’s longest-standing and most respected members, continues to demonstrate remarkable commitment despite the immense challenges facing the country. Through sustained national competitions and international participation whenever possible, the federation remains steadfast in its mission: athlete development, cultural preservation, and the safeguarding of Muaythai’s core values of respect, honour, tradition, excellence, and fair play.
In a powerful example of international solidarity, Thailand has hosted the Ukrainian National Youth Team for pre-World Championship training camps and World Games preparations for three consecutive years. Training in the homeland of Muaythai has provided young Ukrainian athletes with world-class preparation while symbolising the unity and strength of the global Muaythai family.

Once again, the Odesa region demonstrated outstanding organisation and heartfelt hospitality, uniting athletes from across the nation around a shared goal: strengthening sport, inspiring youth, and reinforcing the indomitable fighting spirit of Ukraine.
IFMA congratulates all winners and participants and stands firmly alongside the Ukraine Muaythai Federation. Through resilience, solidarity, and shared values, Ukrainian Muaythai continues to move forward — in the ring and far beyond.
