The sixth day of competition at the IFMA Muaythai tournament saw a number of stunning knock-outs and even more stunning come-backs from determined fighters.
Both rings were in action again with 39 fights including 26 senior women’s bouts.
Local Jonkoping boy Erik Berglund (86kg) took on Belarus’ Anatoliy Vanakov in an exciting bout which drew in the local crowd but in the end he lost out by just one point.
Thailand’s Ekkaphan Sombooonsab also won on points against American Troy Jones at 75kgs. The US boxer had a longer range and tried to use that to power in his right-hand but Ekkaphan drove him back with push-kicks and eventually took the points.
In the 12th fight in Ring A, Russia’s Petrosiain Armen pulled out a cracker of a spinning back kick against Lucas Dvorak from the Czech Republic. He eventually took the win on points.
During the four hours of competition fights took place in both rings, with referees walking around from ring to ring as bells sounded start and end of each round. Some of the spectators seemed to think they were in competition for a Cheering Medal with a medley of songs and chants heard throughout the afternoon and into the evening.

In the women’s contest Russia’s Galina Popova went to war with Vietnam’s Truc Nguyen Thi Tanh. The Vietnamese boxer really worked her teep-kick landing home a good few face-shots in spite of a barrage of swift punches coming from Galina. Both women really went to the edge in the 3rd round and were on the canvas when the final bell went, with True Nguyen taking the win on points.

As fighting in Ring A finished with the last of the men’s fights for today, the final women’s fights were continuing in Ring B. Spectators who stuck it out to the bitter end were rewarded with some great clashes including Nili Block (Israel) vs Nina Scheucher (Austria).
The Israeli boxer went ahead on powerful elbows and punch-combos although Nina more than held her own in the clinch but couldn’t get the last points for a win.
The Peruvian crowd waited on to cheer Antonina Shevchenko to a win over a very tough Oumayma Belashib from Morrocco.

Just one more fight finished out the bouts, leaving the Kinnarps Arena empty for another day.
