The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has officially included Muaythai in the third edition of the Asian Youth Games, representing a major milestone in the sport’s continued development across the continent.

With 48 National Olympic Committees participating, Muaythai takes its place among the key sports of the Games, reflecting its growing recognition within the Olympic Movement.

At the Opening Ceremony, young athletes proudly represented their nations before distinguished guests from all NOCs, the OCA, and the IOC, celebrating the unity, friendship, and diversity of Asia’s youth.

The first competition day featured the Wai Kru and Mai Muay disciplines — officially recognised medal events that honour Muaythai’s cultural foundations and traditional values. The preliminary round brought together talented young athletes from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Nepal, Malaysia, the Philippines, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Vietnam, China, and many more. The Kingdom of Bhutan made its historic debut, marking its first participation in an official Muaythai event.

Performances were accompanied by a live Pi Muay band, a unique feature of Muaythai that continues to distinguish the sport and preserve its cultural identity at every international event.

The International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA), together with the Asian Muaythai Federation (FAMA), extends appreciation to the OCA for recognising both the sporting and cultural dimensions of Muaythai, and for supporting its inclusion in the Asian Youth Games programme.

Congratulations to all athletes and delegations — the competitions have begun, and the spirit of Muaythai continues to inspire youth across Asia.
