Thirty countries and a record number of 1,028 athletes, officials, and coaches have gathered in Antalya to compete in the Mediterranean Championships. This event serves as one of the last qualifying opportunities for The World Games 2025 in China.
Hasan Yildiz, President of the European Muaythai Federation, welcomed all athletes in a special ceremony alongside Vice President of the European Muaythai Federation, Ioannis Papadopoulos. This event highlights the strength of Muaythai in the Mediterranean region and showcases the ambition to have Muaythai included in the Mediterranean Games one day.
The event is more than just a sporting competition; it promotes the rich Mediterranean culture, Olympic values, and Muaythai’s growing popularity worldwide.
Vice President of the European Muaythai Federation and Executive Board Member, Ioannis Papadopoulos, stated, “The cooperation between the regional, continental, and world federations is the key to IFMA’s success, with athletes always being at the center of our efforts. Another important factor is the gender equality ratio and the inclusion of cultural aspects like Wai Kru and Mai Muay in the event. For the next few days, the stage is set, and what better city than Antalya to host these outstanding championships?”
