The road to the 33rd SEA Games 2025 has taken an important and symbolic step forward with the confirmation that Muaythai will be hosted at the legendary Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok.
Following severe flooding in southern Thailand, several sports required relocation from Songkhla Province. On 27 November, Mr. Atthakorn Sirilatthayakon, Minister of Tourism and Sports, chaired the Organising Committee meeting alongside the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), the National Sports Development Fund (NSDF), and national sports federations. Their decision reinforces Thailand’s commitment to delivering safe, world-class, athlete-centred environments, fully aligned with the standards of the Olympic Movement.
IFMA extends its deepest solidarity to all communities affected by the flooding.
Muaythai at Lumpinee A Historic Olympic Milestone
From 13–17 December 2025, Lumpinee Stadium one of the most celebrated arenas in the world of combat sport will welcome the region’s finest athletes.
For the first time in history, Olympic-recognised Muaythai will be contested inside Lumpinee Stadium, marking an extraordinary milestone for both the sport and the iconic venue.
Long known as the spiritual home of the art of eight limbs, Lumpinee has hosted champions, legends, and historic bouts. Hosting the SEA Games under full IFMA sanctioning elevates Lumpinee to the international, multi-sport stage, demonstrating Thailand’s leadership in safeguarding the sport’s cultural heritage while upholding IOC standards of integrity, inclusion, and fair play.

11Muaythai, included in the SEA Games since 1995, returns to the motherland in 2025 under the governance of the International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA) and its continental arm, FAMA. The competition programme will feature both combat disciplines and the traditional Wai Kru and Mai Muay events, celebrating the sport’s athleticism, spirit, and cultural identity.
This historic moment unites tradition and progress:
Lumpinee Stadium where legends were born will now witness Olympic recognised Muaythai on the SEA Games stage for the very first time.
