At a meeting in Wroclaw with The World Games 2017 competition managers, the President of the International World Games Association (IWGA) José Perurena explained his expectations for the 10th edition of this multi-sports event. “We have to deliver nothing less than the best World Games ever.” He then made an important announcement about IWGA’s relationship with the International Olympic Committee.

The Olympic Agenda 2020 working group, headed by IOC Member Sam Ramsamy, proposed the following recommendation: The IOC and the International World Games Association (IWGA) should “… closely cooperate regarding the sports program composition and their respective evaluations.” José Perurena, who serves as a member of this IOC working group, expressed his confidence that this recommendation would be approved during the next IOC session in Monaco in December.

He also clarified his specific requirements for The World Games 2017 in Poland (3-13 August 2017): “Our member federations must bring the very best athletes in their sports and disciplines. We want to demonstrate that our sports are on the same level as the Olympic sports.” IOC Member José Perurena added: “We are cooperating closely with the Wroclaw host city team and aim to deliver superb games in terms of venues and organization.”

Wroclaw Vice-Mayor Wojciech Adamski, supported these expectations: “We will present the best World Games in history,” he summarized, after two days of meetings with IWGA Board members and Competition Managers: “We have worked hard and can see the Organizing Committee, the IWGA, and the International Federations working together as a team. We are heading in the right direction.”

IFMA was represented at the meeting by Dmitry Putilin, Chairman of the IFMA Technical & Rules Commission and Rafal Szlachta, General Secretary of EMF. IFMA undoubtedly prioritizes this as one of our major events and therefore will definitely be making sure that it will indeed be participated by its elite athletes to ensure the highest level and quality of competition.
