The IFMA family is deeply saddened by the passing of Jeff Webb, Founder and President of the International Cheer Union (ICU), a true visionary whose leadership reshaped not only the world of cheerleading but the global sporting community as a whole.
Jeff dedicated his life to creating opportunities for young people, elevating cheerleading to the world stage, and building bridges across international sport. Through his pioneering work with Varsity Spirit and the ICU, he transformed cheerleading into a globally recognized sport, uniting 121 national federations and achieving full IOC recognition. His vision opened doors for millions of young athletes to grow, perform, and find a sense of belonging.

Yet beyond his extraordinary achievements, Jeff will be remembered above all for his friendship. The relationship between IFMA and ICU was never just cooperation, it was a genuine bond built on mutual respect, shared values, and a deep belief in the power of sport to unite. Our close cooperation over the years evolved into something far more meaningful: a true friendship that strengthened both our organizations and inspired our athletes.

For more than eight years, IFMA and ICU shared an office together in Lausanne, the Olympic Capital. This daily proximity was more than convenience, it was a symbol of our close cooperation and deep friendship. It allowed us to work side by side, exchange ideas, support one another, and build a partnership rooted in trust, respect, and a shared vision for the future of sport.

One of the most powerful moments in our shared journey came at the 138th IOC Session in Tokyo, when multiple sports, including Muaythai and Cheerleading, stood proudly together as they were granted full IOC recognition. It was a historic day of unity and celebration, and Jeff’s leadership and unwavering commitment played a vital role in making that moment possible.
For many years, ICU youth teams brought their energy, creativity, and joy to IFMA events, becoming a cherished part of our ceremonies and traditions. These moments symbolized more than performance, they reflected the harmony between our sports and the friendship between our communities. Jeff was at the heart of this connection, always encouraging collaboration, unity, and shared celebration.

Jeff was not only a leader but also a mentor, a colleague, and a dear friend to many. Those who had the privilege of knowing him will always remember his warmth, generosity, and ever-present smile. His smile, in particular, will be deeply missed, by his family, his loved ones, and the entire ICU family, as well as all of us at IFMA who were fortunate to call him a friend.

Next month, the ICU World Championships will honor Jeff’s life and legacy, bringing together thousands of athletes whose journeys were made possible through his vision. IFMA stands in full solidarity with ICU during this time of loss, extending our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the global cheer community.
Jeff Webb believed in dreams, in youth, and in the unifying power of sport.
His legacy will live on not only in every athlete who steps onto a mat, ring or a stage, but in the enduring friendship between our organizations.
Rest in peace, Jeff. Your vision changed the world, and your spirit will remain with us always.
