The International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA) is committed to ensuring fair competition and upholding the principles of clean sport. In alignment with this commitment, IFMA announces the sanctioning of Mr. Asadula Imangazaliev, a member of the Russian Muaythai Federation, for an anti-doping rule violation.
Case Summary
Mr. Imangazaliev competed as an Individual Neutral Athlete at the 2023 IFMA Senior World Championships, held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 3 to 13 May 2023. During the competition, an in-competition doping control was conducted on 12 May 2023, and sample numbers A and B-550340 were collected from the athlete.
Subsequent analysis by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)-accredited laboratory in Bangkok identified the presence of Meldonium, a substance classified as a Hormone and Metabolic Modulator under the WADA Prohibited List. Meldonium is prohibited at all times.
Investigation and Decision
The International Testing Agency (ITA), acting on behalf of IFMA, conducted a thorough results management process under the IFMA Anti-Doping Rules (ADR). Key findings include:
- Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF): The athlete did not have a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) for Meldonium, and no procedural irregularities in sample analysis were identified.
- Admission and Waiver: On 26 June 2023, Mr. Lmangazaliev acknowledged the AAF and waived the right to analysis of the B sample.
- Sanction: After reviewing all circumstances and in the absence of evidence to refute intentional use, a period of ineligibility of four years was imposed, effective from 19 June 2023 to 18 June 2027. Competitive results from 12 May 2023 to the date of the provisional suspension are also disqualified.
Medal Reallocation
Following the conclusion of the case and the issuance of the sanction, IFMA will proceed with the process of medal reallocation in accordance with the rules. The results of all athletes affected by this case will be updated, and any relevant medals, points, and prizes will be redistributed accordingly. This ensures that the rightful athletes receive the recognition they deserve for their performances.
Upholding the Integrity of Sport
The IFMA emphasises that it is the personal duty of every athlete to ensure no prohibited substance enters their body. As such, athletes must exercise the highest level of caution, particularly when using medications.
This sanction demonstrates IFMA’s zero-tolerance approach to doping and its commitment to safeguarding the values of fair play and athlete health.
