The International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA) is proud to have participated in the recent World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Athlete Council elections. These elections, held virtually from 10 to 12 December 2024, saw a high turnout, with 91.7% of eligible International Federation Athlete Commissions casting their votes.
Representing IFMA in this important process was Lennert Swart, Vice Chair of the IFMA Athletes’ Commission, who fulfilled the role of voting delegate for the sport of Muaythai as a WADA signatory. This participation underscores IFMA’s ongoing commitment to ensuring athlete voices are represented in anti-doping governance.
The WADA Athlete Council is a crucial body tasked with amplifying the athlete perspective in anti-doping policymaking. It is composed of three groups:
- Group 1: Five athletes appointed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athlete Commissions.
- Group 2: Eight athletes elected by International Federation Athlete Commissions.
- Group 3: Seven athletes appointed to ensure diversity and relevant expertise.
Following the election, the successful candidates for Group 2 were announced. The eight elected members represent a diverse range of sports and regions, bringing a wealth of experience to the Council. Their inclusion highlights the importance of collaboration and diversity in tackling anti-doping challenges globally.
IFMA congratulates all newly elected members and acknowledges their vital role in promoting clean sport. The federation remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding fairness, transparency, and integrity in Muaythai and across the sporting community.
