The 2024 Muay Talay Championship brought together youth athletes from 44 countries, competing in the finals of this exciting event, which is part of the IFMA Muay Talay Championships. Muaythai, renowned for its wide range of disciplines including combat, Wai Khru, Mai Muay, Kita, Para, and Special Muaythai, also offers one of its most thrilling and entertaining events—Muay Talay, or “Water Muaythai.”
In this dynamic discipline, participants compete on a floating platform where they spar without head contact. The challenge is to remain on the platform, as the competitor who falls into the water is eliminated, with the last athlete standing declared the winner. Muay Talay is a key feature of the Youth World Championships, providing athletes who didn’t reach the podium in combat events with a second chance to shine.
Dato Shanz Azmi, Chair of the IFMA Education Commission, highlighted that the concept has been developed over four years, with a strong emphasis on safety, well-defined rules, and the use of proper equipment. Tajana, Chair of the IFMA Youth Commission, expressed her delight with the event, noting that over 400 participants from 44 countries took part. She added that next year will see a major Muay Talay event held in Abu Dhabi, offering even more opportunities for young athletes to compete, have fun, and build lasting friendships.
As an Olympic-recognized federation, IFMA continues to champion Muaythai as a sport that fosters camaraderie, skill development, and international unity.
