The IFMA Medical Commission held its bi-annual meeting at the World Championships 2016 in Sweden where Swedish expert doctors were invited to share their observations of the competition and the commission.

The Swedish ring doctors have done an outstanding job during the 10 day event.

The Chairman Dr. Erdogan Aydin thanked every doctor especially the Swedish ones for the professionalism at each stage of the competition, where medical assistance was involved; including medical checkups, and medical duties ringside. The chair of the Athletes Commission Ms. Janice Lyn thanked all medical experts on behalf of all the athletes for a fantastic medical examination during the weigh-ins.

The health of the athletes was the main agenda of the meeting, and Dr. Erdogan said that a close cooperation has been the key to ensure injuries at the championships were again at minimum.

The medical commission also discussed at length all worldwide doping issues across sports and that it is IFMA’s priority to promote clean athletes, clean muaythai, and that we must rise to the challenges; this has to be done in cooperation with every stakeholder in the IFMA family.

The presence of IFMA executives at every weigh in and meeting including athlete representation showcases that we all must work together towards common goals of safety and fair play.

The next Medical Commissions Meeting will be held in August this year during the Youth World Championships.
