The World Games family congratulates IWGA President José Perurena for staying on the IOC. The IOC announced after its 128th session in Kuala Lumpur this week that José Perurena’s (ESP) term as IOC Member was extended for four years “as long as he remains President of the International World Games Association.”

The IOC explained further: “The decision was in line with Olympic Agenda 2020, which also calls for a strengthening of cooperation with other sports organisations and other event organisers in particular.” Recommendation N° 6 of the agenda says that the IOC and the International World Games Association should: “… closely cooperate regarding the sports program composition and their respective evaluations.”

José Perurena said after the IOC session had extended his membership: “I am happy and I feel an obligation to breathe life into this recommendation. Serving four more years in office gives me the opportunity to establish a rewarding cooperation with the IOC. Our plan is to integrate The World Games into the Olympic Movement in order to benefit our athletes and our IFs.”

José Perurena has been an IOC member since 2012. He is a member of the Olympic Programme Commission and of the Board of Directors of Olympic Channel Services. He was elected IWGA President in 2014.
