IFMA and WMC Celebrate Milestones in Gender Equality for Muaythai
IFMA and the WMC proudly champion gender equality in Muaythai. In 1996, the WMC broke traditions by introducing the first weekly Muay Ying (female) fights on television. Building on this, since 1999, IFMA has included full female teams in every World Championship, growing from 12 teams in 2000 to achieving full gender equality today.
IFMA’s efforts are especially recognized in countries like Iran, Turkey, Sweden, Egypt and Morocco, where female Muaythai teams have recently won more medals than their male counterparts. This week, the spotlight shines on the renowned Rajadamnern Stadium (RWS) in Thailand, where a historic female fight will take place. The match could crown the first female champion of Rajadamnern, highlighting the sport’s growth and commitment to gender equality.
The event features The Queen Bee Somratsamee seeking revenge against Marie Ruumet, the Snow Leopard, an IFMA athlete aiming to become the new Rajadamnern Stadium Female Bantamweight Champion. This fight exemplifies the ongoing dedication of IFMA and WMC to create an inclusive and equitable environment in Muaythai, inspiring the next generation of fighters worldwide.
