The Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games brought together over 9,000 participants from 102 countries in a spectacular celebration of university sport, science, and culture. IFMA was proud to be represented at this historic edition by Secretary General Stephan Fox, reaffirming the federation’s commitment to the global university sports movement.

During his visit, Mr Fox held important discussions with FISU President Leonz Eder, focusing on the continued collaboration between IFMA and FISU, and the roadmap towards the next FISU World University Cup for Combat Sports. This landmark event will take place in Brasilia, Brazil in June 2026, further solidifying Muaythai’s growing footprint in university sport worldwide.

Mr Fox praised the Rhine-Ruhr Games as an inspiring example of how sport, education, and inclusion can converge to create transformative experiences for youth. “The Games truly reflected the spirit of university sport — unity, diversity, and excellence. IFMA is proud to stand alongside FISU in using sport as a platform for positive change,” he said.

As 27 FISU records were broken and the flame of the Games was extinguished after 12 days of unforgettable competition, IFMA looks ahead with renewed energy towards its future with FISU — continuing to build opportunities for student-athletes to engage in Muaythai at the highest level.
