The Swedish Muaythai Federation has officially announced the athletes honoured to represent their country at the World Championships 2016. Kinnarps Arena hosted a press conference officially announcing the weight categories and age division team Sweden will compete for the honour of their country in May this year.
The official roster had many famous names of current world champions and strong contenders for 2016 gold.
Sofia Olafsson, the winner of the King’s Cup is one of the golden hopes of Sweden not only winning the Queen’s trophy in 2015, but also a sport legend in the world of muaythai.

Johanna Rydberg (51kg) is one of the most qualified muaythai athletes who joined team Sweden with two gold medals from European Championship in her CV.

Isa Tidblad Keskinkangas, the victor of the World Championships 2014 in Langkawi and one of the nominees for the Sportswomen Award of the “Night of Olympism” at the Royal World Cup 2015 will again have a chance to bring fame to her team, family, herself, and inscribe her name in the sport history of Sweden.

Sandra Bengtsson, the girl with the golden smile, is now a full-fledged Swedish muaythai star. Sandra won national championships in 2015 and defended her gold in Varberg this year. She won the gold medal in B-class at the European Championships in 2015 and now is looking forward to join the elite circles of female muaythai.

The Manager of the Swedish team, Mr. Pelle Banghall, who himself is nominated for the Sports Leader of the Year award at the solemn annual Award Ceremony in Stockholm, said that team Sweden has never been stronger, and he is sure that this Championships will reveal new names for world muaythai.

The city of Jonkoping is well into the muaythai mood counting down to the championships. Special event of the night was a demonstration of Wai Kru at the Kinnarps Arena for thousands of spectators before the scheduled hockey game. All the spectators gave a roaring applause to the performers and the Swedish muaythai athletes were truly celebrated.
