
The 8th edition ofthe Wai Kru and Mai Muay Championships concluded this week, marking yet another milestone in IFMA’s continued commitment to preserving Muaythai’s deep-rooted traditions while embracing inclusivity and evolution within the sport.



Having grown into full medal events at the IFMA World and Continental Championships, as well as in Olympic-recognized multi-sport games, these competitions have gained significant prominence worldwide. More than 300 athletes from all five continents seamlessly blended the cultural ritual of Wai Kru with high-level competition, showcasing the perfect harmony between ancient traditions and the dynamic modern era of Muaythai.



Wai Kru Competition
Judged on technique, grace, balance, and fluidity, the Wai Kru competition featured single male and female categories, alongside mixed-gender performances that delivered outstanding displays of skill and artistry. The winning medals went to:











Mai Muay Competition
Mai Muay, which emphasizes ancient Muaythai techniques, is a demonstration-based event where athletes showcase a precise sequence of all Muaythai weapons with proper alignment, power, balance, control, and technical accuracy, all while paying homage to tradition. The event saw a packed arena each day, with spectators captivated by the sheer artistry and athleticism displayed. Televised across more than 195 countries, it further cemented the global reach and cultural significance of Muaythai.

IFMA President Dr. Sakchye Tapsuwan emphasized the importance of preserving tradition, stating: “Preserving traditions is one of IFMA’s key missions, but witnessing so many athletes embrace that spirit while delivering world-class performances has been truly inspiring.”
