Singapore shows the Lion heart and that size does not matter. With one of the smallest population at the world and continental championships, Singapore athletes this year, have delivered outstanding performances.

History was made at the Olympic Games when Singaporean swimmer Joseph Schooling beat his idol Michael Phelps with a picture touching the hearts of billions of people. The Singapore Muaythai Association fully recongised by the National Olympic Committee in Singapore has delivered outstanding performances winning silver at the Youth World Championships and then with Bryan tee (48 kg male division) and Cheryl Gwa (48 kg female division) claiming silver and bronze at the Asian Beach Games in Da Nang.

The Singaporean Muaythai Association President Mervyn Tan, also the General Secretary of the Asian Federation FAMA stated that the grassroots development in Singapore over the last years is showing fruit. He further stated that the success comes from the cooperation and unity of the association and the cooperation with the Singapore Sports Council and the National Olympic Committee.

Next year, will be an amazing sporting year for Muaythai with the SEA Games in Malaysia, the Asian Indoor Martial Art Games in Turkmenistan, the World Games in Poland, the World Championship in Minsk and the Youth World Championshp in Bangkok, showcasing the strength of IFMA as an international federation, and the fact that the smaller countries are now beating the powerhouses like Russia, Thailand, Ukraine, China, United States. All this showcases IFMA’s grassroots work, with Singapore being a prime example.
