medal winners Hungary Zultan Nardelotti and Sndreas Cehovsky Czech

Today was mainly about the youth as they concluded the final stages of that division, and collected medals. Medals were also on offer for some male divisions, with semi-finals for the women.

The beautiful medals on offer today were made in the shape of the traditional Mongkhon. This headgear is worn by all athletes during the ritual Wai Kru dance done at the start of each bout. All three gold, silver and bronze medals are in this shape to the delight of the atheltes – the first time it has been done at an IFMA  or EMF event.

Portugal scooped two golds, with Joana Alvares taking gold in the girls’s  – having won world youth title last year, and Miguel Temporario in the boys 60kg.

The Hungarian team continued to make a mark, with gold in the girls’ going to Ajsa Adel Sandorfi – her coaches were so proud they formed a line near the stage and sang the national anthem so loudly she  was moved to tears.

In Ring B two of the three Danish athletes in action took home gold with silver for the third, including gold for Rasmus Schreiner  – who said later his wife is expecting their first child next week, and joked the baby better be ready for a muaythai life.

Another former Youth athlete Ovsep Aslanyan (Russia) took gold, as did his teammate Nikita Minkin. The Turkish team had six athletes in action across the three divisions, taking 1 gold.

There were also six women’s fights at semi-final level, with The World Games champion Svetlana Vinnikova going through in a tough bout with Swedish champion Erica Bjornstrand. French athlete Myriame Djedidi moved on to the next round, joining her team-mate Anaelle Angerville and Juliette Lacroix.

Ukraine and Belarus were also in the mix today, taking home medals and moving onto the next round in the female divisions.
