This past weekend, the German Muaythai Federation (Muaythai Bund Deutschland) proudly launched the Olympic recognized Sport Muaythai (OSM) Education Modules, marking a significant milestone in athlete and coach development.

The launch was held in celebration of the International Day of Education, reinforcing the federation’s commitment to education as a cornerstone of sport, society, and sustainable youth development.

Elevating Coaching Through Knowledge

The OSM coaching course focused on the core technical foundations of Muaythai, including:

  • Mae Mai – traditional Muaythai techniques
  • Jhap Kau – clinch techniques
  • Pongkan – defensive techniques
  • Muaythai Basics

Beyond technical instruction, the modules integrated essential education in:
health and safety, nutrition, athlete safeguarding, anti-doping, psychology, and holistic athlete development.

By equipping coaches with this comprehensive knowledge, International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA) ensures that coaches are not only technical instructors, but also mentors, educators, and protectors of young athletes.

Strong Support and Participation

The workshop attracted strong participation from across the German Muaythai community, reflecting the growing demand for structured, values-based education within the sport.

Detleff Turnau, President of the German Muaythai Federation, stated:

“Education is the foundation of sustainable sport. With the IFMA Olympic Sport Muaythai Education Modules, we are giving our coaches the tools to develop athletes safely, responsibly, and with a long-term vision that extends beyond competition.”

IFMA was represented by Mohammad Amr, alongside representatives from the federal government, underlining the shared responsibility of sport organisations and public institutions in safeguarding and empowering youth through education.

Linking Sport and Education

Held in alignment with the International Day of Education, the event highlighted the vital role coaches play in shaping the future of young people.

Coaches are not only trainers — they are educators who help young athletes develop resilience, values, discipline, and life skills. By embedding education into every aspect of Muaythai, IFMA ensures that athletes gain far more than sporting excellence; they gain tools for life.

The Power of Youth in Co-Creating Education

As the world looks ahead to the 2026 International Day of Education, the global focus turns to the power of youth in co-creating education. With people under 30 representing more than half of the world’s population, youth are a driving force for innovation, social change, and transformation — yet many continue to face barriers such as inequality, poverty, and limited access to quality education.

By actively engaging young people in shaping the education they receive, IFMA and its national federations position Muaythai as a platform for empowerment, inclusion, and positive social impact.

The German launch of the Olympic Sport Muaythai Education Modules stands as a strong example of how sport can contribute meaningfully to this mission — providing education, safeguarding, and inspiration for the next generation of athletes, coaches, and leaders.
